I've recently installed the linux version of 5.0.b CE and have seen the same issue. Trying to add tags to content, I receive the message "Could not create new item". I have not dug into the log files on this one yet. I have not attempted to uninstall/re-install as the previous user.

We are testing upgrade of our existing Alfresco 4.0d environment and having the same issue as previous poster. We are installed on Windows 2008 box with Mysql db. We have noticed that Admin tools Tag manager and Site Manager fail as well. We can access existing tags on sites but not create new ones

We have same problem, tried many configurations with Tomcat and alfresco-global.properties. Log does not show anything about, only Firebug shows:

"message" : "error.cannotCreateTag",
