I must say that I get awfully nervous about showing my ignorance to everyone!

Regarding the alf_data folder, it is in C:\Alfresco. I think this is the default install (I'm not savvy enough (yet) to customise it, so I would have stayed well away from that option Any info you can impart on the workaround would be greatly appreciated.

I thought I would be getting a 'one shot' DMS application when I installed Alfresco CE, but I'm not sure that's the case any more.

Thanks again for your time

When I go to the online help, the first instruction is:1. Navigate to the content item you want to categorize and click View Details (View Details) for that item.I am

I wouldn't be able to help you with the first part, but the second part about the tags I might know what is causing your issue. Have you moved your alf_data directory to a different location than the default Alfresco creates when you did the install?

If so…that is the reason. I've raised this issue before and it still exists with the newer versions of Alfresco. The work around that I have been able to get to work is to move the alf_data folder to the location that I want, but keep the indexing folders still in the default install location. I can elaborate more if this is something you need to look at.

The document details view is the view with the big preview on the left, and the actions and properties on the right. There used to be a link in the document library to get there, but you can get there just as well by clicking on the file listing.

Once you are on the document details page, there is a "Manage Aspects" link on the right hand side. In order to apply categories to a document, it needs to have the "Classifiable" aspect applied. You can create a folder rule to do this automatically for the content in a specific folder.

To actually edit the category, you need to "Edit Properties" for the file. It sounds like you have already found the links for that.

As for your problem with tags, I believe I saw that error last May, reported it, and we got it fixed last summer. If memory serves, it was fixed in 4.2.d. I highly recommend you upgrade to the latest Community Edition release (4.2.e).

For the Solr properties file?

If you want (so I don't hijack this person's post) could you message me on what parameters you set? This is still an issue in my production environment that I would like to change so that the solr info is being used on our NAS.
