Hello Everyone,

I know there are numerous threads about this issue, but this particular issue has just recently developed.

I'm using alfresco 4.2.f CE on linux centos
Using apache for SSL

Issue: When editing online in chrome, FF, and IE. I get this message. In chrome it says I need to add the microsoft office addon.

Up until now users have been able to edit online with no problems. There hasn't been any server changes or updates. Nor Firewall config changes. The only thing that I see having been changed is the browser on the client side.

I did turn on debugging logging, but I literally get no logs pertaining to the issue. That's another reason why I think it's a browser issue.

So in FF I have the office 2010 plugins (which were there from the beginning)

In IE I can change the compatibility to 10 and it works just fine…I Have no issue when editing online. So I also know its not the file itself.

Has anyone recently been in this same issue? I'm scratching my head on this one.

Hello,

Edit Online won't work on any Chrome version beyond version 37. This is mainly due to Google phasing out NPAPI. They have removed all NPAPI Plug-Ins from the webstore. Consequently all versions of alfresco prior to 5.x are affected.

The latest version of Alfresco 5 uses a new mechanism that does no longer require Plug-Ins for Edit Online.

I have been able to get the latest version of Firefox to work. Apparently I missed looking at enabling the plugin by clicking the little icon to the very left on the address bar. 😕 (noob mistake)

Chrome still does not work, but meh…There are other browser to use till we upgrade.

Edit: You can go to here in the chrome browser and enable NPAPI.

chrome://flags/#enable-npapi‍‍
