Basic understanding of CIFS,FTP

I've have been running Alfresco community edition 4.2 on Ubuntu 12.04.now I'm trying to configure other services like CIFS,FTP. No you don't user vsftpd or samba.

Instead you turn on cifs and ftp through settings in alfresco-global.properties.   In particular cifs.enabled and ftp.enabled.

In addition if you are not running alfresco as root (which is reccommended) then alfresco will not be able to bind to the privileged ports.   So you change alfresco to bind to ports > 1000 and configure your portmapper or firewall to forward say port 21 to 1021
