topic External Content and URL? in Alfresco Archive

I am wanting to reference content outside of Alfresco, and had hoped to use a URL/URI data type, but I don't see one in Alfresco. Is cm:text the best option I have?

In my particular scenario what I am trying to do is take content located outside of the repository and add it to Alfresco and then provide descriptive data around it. At the same time, to avoid duplicating the data, it will be left in place, sitting outside of Alfresco, and simply have a URL pointing to its location. Maybe I need to have a custom store that knows about external file locations? Has anyone dealt with type of scenario and have any suggestions?

In one use case we used dekstop shortcuts in Alfresco. Create a shortcut to a file or url on your dekstop or anywhere you can. Drag it to Alfresco. And you can add metadata to it.
