    <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;The term comes from the early days of alfresco,&amp;nbsp; alfresco has "spaces",&amp;nbsp; windows has "folders", dos has "directories".&amp;nbsp; To all intents and purposes a "space" in alfresco is a synonym for a "folder".&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; In fact one of the core services is called the FileFolderService.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;There's a pedantic discussion about the difference to be had and perhaps it may be important some day as and when alfresco gets more "folder" types.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; I will start the discussion by saying a folder in alfresco is a type of space.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Certainly everything displayed by Alfresco Share is a "folder".&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; There are likely to be one or two examples where there's a difference, however I can't think of an example so it's going to be obscure!&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
