I would still like to know the "right" answer - but here's what I did that *also* worked:

I found the contentnode on the disk (under alf_data) since it was the most recently modified bit of content, it was easy to find. I simply removed any possibly offending lines of code, saved the contentnode, and fired up Alfresco again. I was then able to use Explorer to deactivate the model.

Is there any way to remove this error without changing data from alf_data folder?
