I've not seen that error before, and I use the Android app a fair bit. I don't work on the Android app, and I'm afraid I'm not sure what might cause it, but it may well be worth raising a JIRA for it at https://issues.alfresco.com/ - it certainly sounds like a bug.

Give it a try by renaming the site to see if it helps. Also are you experiencing this issue on all types of Android phones or on phones with particular OS

I renamed the site by using the "edit site details" function without solving the problem. The new site name is shown in my android app but the error message still comes up. I experience this issue on all Android phones so far (from lower versions up to 6.0.1). I think I will raise a JIRA as suggested by David.
