topic Poor Performance in Alfresco Archive

Hello All,

Disclaimer: I am very much the novice with Alfresco, and all of its parts. I had little to do with its installation and administration, but now find myself as the last man standing. So, I am now the focal point for resolving our Alfresco problems.

We are running Alfresco 4.0.e (w/MySQL) on CentOS 6.4 in a vSphere 5.1 U1 VM. The VM has 4 vCPU's and 4GB of RAM.

Over the past week or so, our ability to navigate through Document Libraries has become very slow, and our ability to search just appears to hang.

Using atop to monitor the server, I don't see any real pressure on CPU, memory, disk, or network. A few days ago mysql was using 300%+ CPU for an hour here and there, but nothing like that since I rebooted the server. But, still searching just hangs.

I have reviewed some articles regarding tuning Lucene, but I am not confident that they are the fix. According to the alfresco-global.properties file, it looks like we are using SOLR, but glancing at the documentation makes me think we are using SOLR "with" Lucene(?). So, I'm really not sure what needs to be tuned.

If there is any specific information that I can provide to illuminate our configuration, let me know and I will do my best to post it.

Any help or direction anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Doug

We have a similar setup. We are using CentOS 6.4 with postgresql. Using a VM on proxmox with 4 GB of ram and 4 cpu.

Search is lightning fast.

If you are using the default alfresco-global.properties default settings then it should be using solr as default (4.2.d)

Has searching always been that slow?
I would try adding more ram to see if that helps.
Also, trying tagging items to cut down on wide searches.
