Hi,
I'm looking for a file sharing solution to be deployed on-premise. I came over many products like Owncloud, Pydio and others, all share same features and most of them are developed with PHP which is not my preferred language.

What I want to know, if Alfresco could be a file sharing solution, does it have the common features that are present in the other alternatives, or simply Alfresco is not meant to be that kind of solution ?

I don't use Owncloud or Pydio, but Alfresco is commonly used for teams in organizations to share files.

Jeff

I don't know if Alfresco is "too much", but it is definitely "a lot", and likely "more complex" than many other solutions. And it is made out several technologies, not just a web server and one scripting language like Pydio, but Java, Javascript, Tomcat, Freemarker Template Language, Surf, Spring, pdf2swf hence flash, sharepoint emulation, email server and client, and many many other stuff.

Choosing your solution based on (one of) the language used for programming is a very bad idea. You have to analyze the features you want, like AD integration, number of files added every day, cloud or not, preview, emails, etc. A long journey in all cases …
