Shame no movement on this JIRA issue since 2017. Anyone aware of a module that can do this?

I found https://community.alfresco.com/docs/DOC-7900-alfresco-private-share-link-with-password?q=How%20do%20I%20share%20a%20docu… but it links to a 404 page

Im surprised this is not a common use case. Our current workaround is to copy the file to another system (ownCloud, Dropbox) and share it with a password and expiry date. But now there are duplicates.

Hey Guys,I'm new in Alfresco and exploring some of the features of the wide variety right now. While exploring the sharing function, I saw that it isn't possible to share content with a password protection. Is it possible to share links via a safe protocal like https oder via a password protection ?Ma

There is no feature to share a link via password protection. Sharing a link via a safe protocol (HTTPS) requires that you set up your server properly to support HTTPS and actually enforce it.

In general, we would recommend you only run and expose Alfresco using "https".

If you're referring to so-called public "shared links" (aka QuickShare) such as ...

https://my.domain.org/share/s/llta4xWGQ36LPls6xu2qLA

... then it is true that they're "public" to those users that can access the Alfresco instance (without requiring authentication). Note: in some cases, these "public shared links" may only be accessible on a corporate network (or via a corporate VPN) if the Alfresco instance sits behind a firewall.

In the future, we may also provide features to also password-protect such "shared links", see for example:

[SHA-1528] Public Sharing Enhancements - Alfresco JIRA

In the meantime, if you would like to provide a link to content via Share that requires authentication (and is permission controlled as normal) then you could consider using the Share url to the document detail page, such as:

https://my.domain.org/share/page/site/my-site-1/document-details?nodeRef=workspace://SpacesStore/7c1b537b-6058-4e9c-a0ad-6ec29b4f85d8

This is available from the right-hand-side of the Share Document Details page.

Regards,

Jan
