due to the shortness of your question - maybe it's not clear for me what your question is.
Maybe it helps, if you take a look at <a href="http://forums.alfresco.com/forum/end-user-discussions/alfresco-share/document-library-sort-order-02182009-0704">this post</a> for sorting documents in the document library.
Content modeling itself is described in the <a href="http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Data_Dictionary_Guide">Alfresco Wiki</a> and several articles spread over the internet.

Thanks for your reply and link.

Currently I have a custom metadata field called "ordering" which is a numeric one and i want to sort the documents according to my custom field. I have successfully added the field in sorting list in the ui using the <sorting> option in share.config-custom.xml file. But the problem that, it is not getting sorted properly. Sometimes it is working , sometimes not. please help
