Any default or custom attempt to install the x64 version of 4.2.c to a brand new clean [but fully patched] Windows 2008 R2 server fails to complete, with a Postgres error approximately 30% of the way into the install routine: "Error running initdb.exe -U SYSTEM -E UTF8 -D C:/Alfresco/alf_data/POSTGR

Are you on a domain or workgroup? If you're on a domain, login as the local administrator (not the domain administrator), you should have no problems installing then. x64 takes a little more effort than the x32, but still do-able.

Sorry for the belated reply: that seems to work. Insane that it should be the case, but … any port in a storm etc.

Thanks for the tip. Now trying a custom install to see how that progresses
