About Non CMIS REST API

Hi All, We are evaluating integrating our Application with Alfresco Community 4.2.0b using Alfresco REST API(Non CMIS).But am having a hard time finding references and samples for the same (everywhere i see points to CMIS REST).Is there some documentation,sample client etc. where i can start with.

Thanks Jan. But would like to know why the community prefers the CMIS REST APIs over the propreitory ones apart from portability.

I see that Proprietary APIs return responses in JSON which is way lighter and faster than Atom XML way used by CMIS APIs
