I'm was running alfresco 4.0.0 when I tried to upgrade to the latest community edition 4.2.b. The OS is an up-to-date debian squeeze with sun-jre. Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: java.nio.channels.SeekableByteChannel‍

You need to update to Java 7 on your server.

I have not been able to get 4.2d to come up.
I created a new database with grants, etc.
imported the 4.0e schema into the new database
modified the global properties for the MYSQL db and tested accessing the database with the alfresco user.

Any ideas?

U checked it by accessing the DB, but does the user have alter and other permissions to the DB
please check it

This what I ran after creating the db:

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON alfresco.* TO alfresco@localhost IDENTIFIED BY '<password>';
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

It looks like its failing trying to create tables that already exist:

Why would it recreate existing objects?

I decided to just create a blank DB and start alfresco, this time it appears to have come up. What are the steps to import the data from the 4.0e db?
