Hi johnpneal ,
I think you need to use the <multiple>true</multiple>
In the content model where you have defined the property for attachment.

Or other solution is you can also go for Associations.

Tried that, however I have found that since posting it seems that this cannot be done at this time with OpenCMIS and I am not sure Alfresco supports this either. My solutions is to store the object id in a multiple text field and upload the content to a folder.
