Same problem here, except that CIFS is working fine! It's only the web interface that is displaying the same error message as yours.

So found two things that I could do to correct my error.

1.) 1.4.1 has a new home folder provider which creates a home folder. The home folder wasn't created with any inherited permissions. Once I added that the error went away.

2.) thanks to Ludo who clarified that the homefolder provider is default and we can set it back to company provider like it was in 1.3. Thanks Ludo I totally missed that in the wiki.

My CIFS problem still remains but I created a different thread for that.
