I need to modify a JAR of Alfresco, and before modifying anything, I decided to first compile and test the produced JAR (alfresco-deployment-3.xxx.jar).PROBLEM: The JAR from the downloadable ZIP is 8.5Mbytes, but when I compile from source, I get a 90Kbytes JAR. The deployment package you download has the dependent libraries, sample config etc.

90K sound about right for the actual deployment jar.

You need to contact Alfresco support R.E. version labels, it looks like there was an omission or mistake.

And yes you need to match versions between the receiver and sender.
