What is it that you are trying to do? Can you frame it correctly!

I doubt there is any limitation to alfresco as lot of the times i get stuck and later find out the answer!

Hi

If you can not read the parents of a file or folder to which you have access you can not navigate to it.
You can find it via search. You can create a secondary link to the files that you can follow.

If we were to automatically add permissions then we could expose documents the user did not intend to be seen ….

I think you can add this behaviour via policies if you want it.
