I have found a work around on the issue.

The swf files open quickly and work fine when accessed throuh webdav link. Am now creating wiki's with webdav links to training videos

opening with this type of link works fine.
/alfresco/webdav/Sites/EMR/documentLibrary/foldername/documentname.swf"

view in browser link doesn't
/share/proxy/alfresco/api/node/content/workspace/SpacesStore/bba1231b-ee57-4e3d-b75c-c7a58c0ef3c7/documentname.swf

Great that you found a solution.

I thought I would post a comment about this anyway since it could be useful info:

I would suggest you use "video/mp4" with H.264 encoding since it can be viewed using StrobeMediaPlayback or FlashFox plugins (if the browser has flash installed) OR the Video plugin (if the browser has support for the html5 <video> tag & H.264. You will then be able to view your videos in full screen.

If you can't convert to "video/mp4" (i.e. I would suggest converting to ".flv" ("video/x-flv"), which of course requires flash in your browser. The benefit of this is that it will allow you to view the videos in fullscreen.
