Hello,

For our departement i was searching for a opensourse document management system to manage the different documents within our projects. After i did some research i decided to install Alfresco on my Windows 7 machine (alfresco-community-4.0.b-installer-win-x64.exe / the easy installation) to find out if Alfresco is of value for our departement.

I tested Alfresco Community-4.0.b for a few hours and my colleageus and I were very enthousiastic about the easy ness to create different spaces, upload contant, manage content, etc. So we decided to install Alfresco (alfresco-community-4.0.b-installer-linux-x64.bin) on a server (Ubuntu 11.04 64bit) instead off my laptop so that everyone could use it. The installation on the server was a bit different in comparison with the installation on my laptop. For example, we did not install Java and Postgress because this was already installed on the server.

After the installation was finished, I requested the login page of Alfresco and I noticed something strange. The Login page of Alfresco on the Linux server was not the same as the Login page on the Windows 7 machine (my laptop). I logged on and as I already expected (because the login page was different) the whole lay-out and look and feel of Alfresco that we installed on the Linux Server was totally different then the lay-out, look and feel and functionality of the Alfresco version that we installed on the Windows machine.

The webpage of Alfresco that we installed on the Linux machine has the same lay-out and functionality as the lay-out on this picture:

Important to note: The picture above shows the Alfesco Enterprise Version, but we installed the community version!! (although, the picture shows how Alfresco looks like after we installed it on a Linux machine)

While I expected more a lay-out that looks something like the lay-out on this picture:

What did we wrong? We checked the version of both installers (linux and Windows) and it seems that they are Ok.

Linux: Alfresco Community 4.0.b — Built on 2011-10-23 17:27:33 IB: 7.2.2-201107260356 (Scheme ??)
On the bottem of the page: Supplied free of charge with no support, no certification, no maintenance, no warranty and no indemnity by Alfresco or its Certified Partners. Alfresco Software Inc. © 2005-2010 All rights reserved.

Windows: Alfresco Community 4.0.b — Built on 2011-10-23 17:17:09 IB: 7.2.2-201107260356 (Scheme 5019)
On the bottem of the page: Supplied free of charge with no support, no certification, no maintenance, no warranty and no indemnity by Alfresco or its Certified Partners. Click here for support. Alfresco Software Inc. © 2005-2011 All rights reserved.

I also noticed that the text on the bottem line about "all rights reserved" was different (see above) after installation on the Linux (2005-2010) and Windows (2005-2011) machines. This might be a suggestion that the versions on both environments are different. However, this statement can be rejected because( as you could see above) the versions of both installers look like the same.

Did we miss something essential during the installation? or is the Linux installer different then the windows installer?

An explanation is very welcome!

Thanks. Tim

Nope. it is the same layout, there is no difference between Linux and Win version (they are essentially the same code).

Obviously, you have navigated to /alfresco , so you get the old school exploerer GUI 🙂 Try /share …

HTH
Gyro
