I wonder what has come of my request. I'm now testing 1.3.0 and I still can't seem to do what I'd like to do. Let me explain it once again.

I defined three (user) groups: A, B and C.

Within each of these groups, I created one subgroup: X in A, Y in B and Z in C.

This state of affairs is clarified in the following diagram:

What I'd like to do now, is to create a group M that consists of the subgroups X, Y and Z. In other words, I'd just like to reuse existing subgroups (for ease of operation).

When you are managing groups in Alfresco, you can do three things:- Create subgroup- Delete Group- Add UserI would like to add a fourth one:- Add groupIt would give me the opportunity to reuse a (sub)group that I have already defined. Hence, it would improve manageability. Is there any reason why thi

I don't believe there are any technical reasons why this should be a problem, since you can already create groups within groups (called sub-groups - but essentially the same as any other Group). I'll raise a JIRA task to track this enhancement request.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi

Groups are uniquely named and, by default, they are reused.

So if you already have group A and then add A is a child of another group it will not create a new group A but reuse the existing group A.

As I recall, this is not obvious from the UI.

Cheers

Andy

I suppose I don't understand your answer…

I try to make two trees of usergroups:
1 organizational tree (because I don't use LDAP or Active Directory)
1 functional tree that I link to my workspaces

I want to include organisational usergroups (f.e. department HR) in several functional groups. Each functional group is linked to specific workspaces with specific rights. If a person leaves the department HR then I only have to remove it from one group, the organisational…

But I can not add groups into groups… I did some tests in 1.4 enterprise and 2.0 preview community.

I suppose it must be possible to arrange that since you can add persons to several groups…
