Something else to look at is Web2Project (http://web2project.net/).
We've looked at most things around and the feel that it's better to choose the software appropriate to the task - Alfresco for our ECM requirements, Web2Project for our PM requirements.
W2P has support for ECM but not a patch on Alfresco performance. Haven't seen anything in or around Alfresco that gives the same PM performance that W2P does.
Each supports customisation and user choice of OS environment (Windows, Linux) and both have a good level of Community support.

Cheers, Sasquatch

I have the same question. Looking to perform project portfolio and program management with Alfresco. Are there any add-on's and/or good practice guidelines to do this?

Hi. I would also be very interested in this functionality. Basically, the ability to generate tasks not related to a document but to a "project". You should be able to designate "dependant" tasks and from there generate a network diagram and Ganntt chart. Perhaps someone has used a third party application for this - if so, I would really appreciate some pointers!

The purpose of project planning is to identify the scope of the project, estimate the work involved, and create a project schedule. Project planning begins with requirements that define the software to be developed. The project plan is then developed to describe the tasks that will lead to completion. The purpose of project monitoring and control is to keep the team and management up to date on the project's progress. If the project deviates from the plan, then the project manager can take action to correct the problem. Project monitoring and control involves status meetings to gather status from the team. When changes need to be made, change control is used to keep the products up to date.
