Hi,

I'm new to Alfresco and I have been tasked to begin out document management system using Alfresco. We currently store a majority of our documentation on our internal shared drive. This obviously is very limited with versioning and controlling document history and assuring the current document uploaded is the most up-to-date.

So, while playing around with Alfresco I've come up with a few question:

*** Is there a way, when looking at a file you can download the file, make your changes and upload it directly back to server? I'm looking for something similar to sharepoint with the ability to check-in/check-out. But the file isn't lost in your computer directory.

*** Do the users mainly use the Alfresco Share dashboard or the "My Alfresco" more often?

*** Which book would be the best from the
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=alfresco&x=0&y=0#/ref=sr_st?keywords=alfresco&qid=1303756417&rh=n%3A266239%2Ck%3Aalfresco&sort=relevancerank

would help someone who doesn't have java a developer background establish a good document management system.

Thanks for your help and look forward to your replies.

I'm also new to Alfresco, and I can see the value of more experienced members writing about how they use Alfresco, not necessarily a long report, but may be unique experiences/features that have been of particular value to that member.

It sounds like I am talking about success stories, but I only have in mind anecdotal information.

Hope this makes sense.

I think most users prefer to use My Alfresco instead of Alfresco Share dashboard.
