Hi all,
I am trying to install Alfresco on godaddy.com's Linux shared hosted service - it's inexpensive. They provide MySQL, Java, TomCat, PHP, Python, Perl, all pre-installed and nicely maintained. However, because it's a shared hosting service, I can't open a terminal - all I can do is run scripts. Also, I can't SUDO anything. I was considering untarring Alfresco's Tomcat distribution locally, FTPing it up to a directory my virtual server (I can't access the default install point of /opt so I'd put it somewhere like /home/myownspace/alfresco), editing the alfresco.sh file as required.

Will I be able to install Alfresco under these circumstances?

Does anyone have any experience with installing on godaddy.com's shared hosting plans and if so, any tips to getting it installed? If one can't do it on godaddy, any idea which ISP has a cheap, reliable virtual server plan I can install Alfresco on?

Many thanks.

If Alfresco company reps are in anyway restricted to go so far as to recommend some specific hosting companies which they know to be a good fit for their software, would the community here please chime-in and suggest some good hosting programs from firsthand recommendations please?

The saying "its a jungle out there" always applied to shopping for good hosting, but adding these new parameters (java, etc) really has a guy looking for inside tips.

Thanks
