If you go and check the path
Company home/Data Dictionary/webclient_extension/
through the web-client (Alfresco explorer) you may see the file web-client-config-custom.xml
As per the logs problem could lie in that file.
Try removing that file.
Or try to figure out what is wrong in that file.

Thanks for your response.

The xml file listed in the error doesn't exist on the server - there is just the sample file.

Any ideas where I should be looking specifically for an error message? There seem to be a lot of log files created at the time of the crash.

Problem sorted…

i've just uploaded the file http://java.net/projects/pdf-renderer/downloads/download/PDFRenderer-0.9.1.jar, replaced the /opt/alfresco-3.4.e/tomcat/webapps/alfresco/WEB-INF/lib/PDFRenderer-2009-09-27.jar file by this one (renamed PDFRenderer-0.9.1.jar as PDFRenderer-2009-09-27.jar).

(apparently it doesn't need renaming but I thought I would anyway - just in case)

Restarted the server and it doesn't crash anymore as before..
