Update your version of PDFBox.

I use also Alfresco 3.4D on other servers and no problem with libjvm.so. (pdfbox-1.2.1.jar by default).

On french forum rguinot thinks about bad jvm parameters. He purposes to start like this :
(I have 3 GB RAM, Mysql by default on the server. No more application for tomcat).

export JAVA_OPTS="-XX:PermSize=256m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Xms1024m -Xmx1500m -Dalfresco.home=/opt/Alfresco -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote"‍

I will try with this configuration and if the crash appears I will put the last pdfbox.
