I have exactly the same issue trying to upgrade to any version over 3.3. I tried going to 4 which doesn't come with the MySQL bundle. I tried 3.4d and couldn't make it work with my data. I tried 3.4c and I'm getting exactly the same error. It doesn't matter which set of instructions are there the basic installation works but not the upgrade. If I'm re-install 3.3 and restore the data then it works.

I installed the desired version. I try it and works well. I configure the authentication and else until I feel confident. I drop the database and re-create it. I restore my data backup (MySQL and alf_data). I set my repository file to recreate indexes. And that's it…..

16:35:40,252 INFO [repo.admin.ConfigurationChecker] The Alfresco root data directory ('dir.root') is: C:\Alfresco2\alf_data‍

I have done the backup and restore in a couple of different ways and it doesn't work (cold, hot, any). I need to upgrade because webfolders (webdav) doesn't work for WIndows 7 in the 3.0 stable version. ANy help would be tremendously appreciated.

Tony

I'll followup to say that I solved this issue by reluctantly taking my Alfresco instance offline, taking a cold backup and performing the upgrade procedure into a new instance, restoring my cold backup and porting my config into the newer properties file.

The content was fine but I then hit this issue https://forums.alfresco.com/en/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=38458 where my Alfresco was now useless.

After a lot of pain to upgrade and eventually having to rollback I am still running Alfresco 3.3. I got a similar story from a friend who runs the Enterprise edition on a similarly failed upgrade attempt that required an up-to-the-minute fix from the Developers under his support contract. In summary, I won't be using Alfresco again.

Cheers
Chris
