Is it possible to "profile" a document with alfresco so that it can be used within a law firm?

For example, in any law firm, you'll need to quickly search for documents across the following fields:

- Title
- Author
- Department
- Client Number
- Matter Number
- Document ID

The important thing to note is that the assistants will put documents into the DMS for the attorneys. So they need to be able to change the document author when saving a document into the DMS. Is this possible?

The document ID is the other real kicker - we have them printed at the bottom of each page so that anybody who finds a paper copy can quickly pull it up. Does Alfresco have a simple mandatory document ID (sequential numbering is fine) function that can be pulled by a macro and applied to the document?

The first part is basic alfresco, adding metadata and searching on it.

There are various unique "IDs" in alfresco and you can roll your own. The trickier part is how the ID gets added into the content such that it could print on the bottom of the page. There are so called metadata injectors for various content types. Things may become clearer once you consider requirements in more detail.
