Dear forumI have a directory in my repository that has permissions set to "consumer" for everybody. This allows the desired read-only access, however the "guest" user is not able to navigate to this folder to view documents. If I set permissions for all to "contributer," the guest user is able to se

thanks for the response. I must apologise for misreporting what I had tested. I have tested setting guest user permissions to contributer and customer. As a customer, the guest cannot find any documents in my active documents folder but I would like this functionality. Are you suggesting this will be accomplished by writing and RSS feed?

Neil

So you manually added the guest user to the documents space and he was able to navigate to that folder?
If he then did no see its contents, I'm a little out of ideas, that should not happen. :?

A starter for RSS feed usage is found here (after some scrolling): http://www.packtpub.com/article/extending-document-management-alfresco-3
On these forums, you'll find some examples of customized RSS feeds. Maybe something that fits your ideas is beneath them.

Thanks, I'll look at that link right now.

As for navigating, I was probably rambling a bit.

Desired functionality: guest navigation to some folder. I've not achieved this at all.
Desired functionality: guest user searching of documents within some folder. I've achieved this by adding the guest user as a contributor, but this comes with the possibility that anyone could contribute without logging in. If I set guest user access to consumer, the searching functionality disappears.

Thanks again, Neil

I tried your scenario with 3.4.c and it worked flawlessly for me.
I created a space under Company Home, gave the guest user consumer rights, and when he then used the link to that folder, he was not only able to see its contents but also to search for and find it.
Do you mean, that the search field in the upper right disappears, when you have a guest with consumer rights?
If not, maybe you gave permissions on a file level in your folder? Is your problem limited to search? Did you use wildcards* ?(but with or without, your search results should not vary with the level of the guest's access right)
Can you reproduce your problem with an empty Alfresco installation?

I've just restarted the server and that has allowed me to search for the documents and the folder as guest. Not sure hwy that helped, but this isn;t the only issue I've tikered with. I look and feel somewhat foolish, but at least this thread can be closed

Thanks for your help; it's sometimes valuable for someone to point out "you CAN do it!"

Neil
