Hi there,
What do you mean by "database access" ? You mean "bypassing the apis" ?
Or how to retrieve data from the repository ? In the second case, start reading the wiki "developement" section about the available APIs, they are almost all about accessing the data.

Under normal circumstances, you should NEVER call Alfresco DB directly - use the Alfresco Java API. That's why we have it

Three things come to mind : Yes, Yes and … Yes

Its like allowing your enduser to edit your schema & metadata fields after production start … it might work (for a while), but might render your system almost useless with the next update/patch.
