Hi,Is it possible to use custom icons for the misc file types uploaded to the server? Now it is one generic icon/png (cogs) for all documents. I'd like to create custom icons for the most common file types uploaded to the server. Please advice,Thanks!

By "misc" you mean for generic file types?
My guess is that you should edit or change the share/images/filetypes/generic-file-32.png file. Or do you mean add some new file type and icon?

Yes, I mean to add more icons for file types. Now it is only one generic icon (cogs) for all files without a system generated thumbnail.

The default cog icon should also be changed since we get a lot of supprt from users thinking the system is "working" on the file. That icon I had already changed. Very strange choice for a default icon…

Very strange choice for a default icon…
Not really… the idea is that you configure custom transformers if you've got a particular type of file that can't be thumbnails out-of-the-box. The cogs indicate that a thumbnail is being generated. I agree that an enhancement could be to replace the cog icon with something else if a transformer failed or hasn't been configured.

What types of files are you mostly seeing this on?

Thanks,
Mike

But we have many other documents on the server, like MS Project files, DWG's, EPS, PDF's with embedded 3D, audio files, etc. They all get the same cog thumbnail icon in detailed view. I'd like to be able to have unique thumbnails on all different file types documents common and uncommon…

Regards,

Oblivian

OK, I created an ugly workaround: I modified documentlist.js.
I customized the cell thumbnauk rendering function and I had to add my own business logic based on the nodeType (found by calling oRecord.getData("nodeType")). The innerHTML is rendered differently when I detect my types.
I conducted the same changes in path.js. Everything works fine when I show the icon, things are tricky with the path because I just have the names of the folders, and not their types.
Olivier

Hello, just a new user of Alfresco here, does anyone know if how could i show a thumb of an uploaded file if i will choose the option at the Document Library on Detailed view?
Because it just shows the Gear icon instead of a screen shot like of the File uploaded. I think there's a filetype issue but i don't know how to fix this one. Cos almost all files that are being uploaded are MS Office 2010 files already. So it's kinda a docx file. Please can someone lend a help. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I'd like to give this topic a bit attention again. My question is: where are the (share) filetypes defined, in special how are the *-16.png *-32.png icon files assigned to the documents. The naming-convention of the files seems to be "[FILEXTENSION]-file-16.png". So it occured to me: "Alfresco extracts the extension-string of an file and automatically looks for an .png file named with this extension, if true, the file gets the according icon, if false the file gets the generic icon". Am i right with this method are is it done otherwise?

In which script or xml are the filetype and icon assocations constructed? I tested to name a new filetype - e.g. "indd-file-32.png" - and put it in "tomcat6/webapps/share/components/images/filetypes/" where the other filetypes are stored and naively thought it would be assigned automatically - this was unfortunatly wrong.

I'm thankful for any help or tip!

regards,
Volker
