Hi, I've got a brand spankin' new installation of 3.2 … no config changes … on Vista SP1. Everything seems to start up just fine, but when I try to browse Alfresco via CIFS I am unable to authenticate as admin/admin. I have not disabled windows smb on this machine, but I don't think I have to?

I am trying to connect using: \\workstationnameA\

I am immediately prompted for credentials, and I enter admin for the user and admin for the password. I receive a logon unsuccessful message.

On a perhaps related note, when I login to the Alfreso web client as admin/admin , and then click "View in CIFS" in a file's "links", I receive the error: Cannot find 'file://workstationnameA/Alfresco/Tester/somefile.pdf'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.

I've read the CIFS thread in this forum, the 3.2 wiki page on file servers, and one or two old bug reports about CIFS not working right on Vista (and maybe XP).

Nope. I tried the IP too, in which case I still can't authenticate.

The problem isn't really in connecting. The problem is authenticating.

Installed on Ubuntu 8.04 and I can connect via CIFS and authenticate as admin just fine.

Don't know what the issue with Vista is. I don't want to disable SMB…I thought Alfresco could work with native SMB?

It is necessary to disable SMB over TCP/IP (known as 'native SMB' on the Wiki) on a windows server before CIFS will work correctly. This is due to a clash between the Alfresco and Windows services. See

http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/File_Server_Subsystem#Native_SMB_collisions
