I have 56 rules on a space.All rules are based on "inbound"I have all of the rules running in the "background"All the rules are to move the contents to other folders.The rules don't seem to run.When I go look I always see files in the folder.When I "reapply all rules" in the folder all the files suc

This is becoming a real concern.
I can't see anything in the log files that tell me that the rules are not running and this idea of running the background does not seem to be working. I am now waiting two days for the rules to fire and move the files. If I re-apply the rules for a space then the rules will run successfully. This just seems like one of the most basic features of Alfresco.

I have read the other messages in the forum, I am the only person seeing this inactivity?

This is becoming a real concern.

Unfortunetely I have the same problem. My rules (simple workflow to item) work fine only after I use the "Manage Content Rules>Reapply Rules In Space (Reapply Rules in Space and Children)" option.

Linux Debian Lenny
Alfresco 3.2r (with RM applied)
NTLM + Passthru + ldap-ad
CIFS

Maybe its the case that this feature was not intended to work in the CE version.
I was reading another port where a user was having the same issue:

I did download the "Alfresco-Labs-3Stable" version and this work fine.
Source: wget http://eu.dl.alfresco.com/release/labs/build-1526/Alfresco-Labs-3Stable-Linux-x86-Install?dl_file=release/labs/build-1526/Alfresco-Labs-3Stable-Linux-x86-Install
I tried export my structure, build with "Alfresco-Labs-3Stable", to import into Alfresco-3.2r2 but unfortunately there doesn't work.
For this, I only used the option "export" (Labs-3Stable-Linux-x86-Install) and "import" (Alfresco-3.2r2).
The export/import operation worked fine (spaces/sub-spaces/rules) , but again the rules only work after "Reapply Rules".

Just to clarify miudon, the space rules are working for you on version 3.0 and are not working on 3.2r?
Could you provide a sample rule that you are using.

Just in case can you test having update rules and see if it works.
Sometime back I had to do the same for some inbound file rules - just to make sure it is working.

oh my goodness, I had a similar requirement today and while I was doing this - I am encountering the same issue.

I have only 5 rules and I have applied it at "Sites" space level for "Inbound" and "Update" of documents. When the user uploads documents in "DocumentLibrary" of certain sites, the rule gets triggered (rule applied to children spaces as well by selecting the checkbox when configuring rules in Explorer).

I am also facing the same issue like others in this thread. Only when I reapply the rule, and then I upload documents under DocumentLibrary - the rule gets triggered. This is wierd!

I was thinking I was helping someone this morning, but on the same day I end up with the same issue myself!
Any help is appreciated!

Well, my "Update" rules are consistently getting triggered, but my "Inbound" rules are not. (i.e., Update Rule is - Rule which gets triggered when I update the metadata of the document or the document itself with particular pattern of file name).

I kind of guess (logically as a user - without applying any technical knowledge) what could be the problem is - when the "Inbound" rule is applied, sometimes (first time when we apply the rule it works) the file is not completely created in the repository. So the rules are not kicked in. (I might be completely WRONG - please excuse me - I am just trying to find reasons for rules not triggering sometimes!).

Since update rule is consistently working, I am at least fine for now.

I did some more testing.

I installed 3.2r2 on a windows server and set up the same rules as on my ubuntu server.
The rules seem to fire.
The issue is that the rules are not followed.

With '10000*' in the file name move to folder 10000 on inbound
With '20000*' in the file name move to folder 20000 on inbound

With testing 5 files:
2 go to wrong folder
3 go to correct folder

Its curious to me why:
a file with 10000 would end up in folder 20000
a file with 20000 would end up in a folder 10000

Is there a way for me to turn on some debugging to watch what is going on so that I can report my findings?

I tried this and seem to discover that there is likely a limit some where:
I think the rules are being truncated somewhere.

With these files:
60100300-70000091-1809.wav
60100302-70000092-1319.wav

Rules in this order:
60100300* in the name go to folder 10000
60100302* in the name go to folder 20000
Both files go to folder 10000

Rules in this order:
60100302* in the name go to folder 20000
60100300* in the name go to folder 10000
Both files go to folder 20000

Rules in this order:
60100300* in the name go to folder 10000
60100302* in the name go to folder 20000
Both files go to folder 10000

I changed the rules to these:
*00302* in the name go to folder 20000
*00300* in the name go to folder 10000
Works correctly.

I have installed 3.2rs CE and tried a simpler set of rules to try to determine a pattern.
The rules of my simple tests were listed above with folder 10000 and and folder 20000.
There is something wrong with the results, the results are not as I would expect.

Hi Everyone,
I am using Alfresco 5.0. My requirement is to trigger a custom workflow when an xml file is dropped in a particular folder and use the contents of the xml file during the process of workflow.

I started my requirement with following steps in mind
a. Initially I tried to create rule for a folder which triggers a simple workflow available in options (with Approve, Reject) when an xml file is dropped into a folder - which is not triggering the rule.
b. If it triggers how can I trigger a custom workflow from a rule?
c. How to use same xml file at different points of the workflow?
d. How to grab the elements in xml and use them throughout the workflow?

Can anyone help me with triggering a rule. I am struck at step 1.I am not able to trigger a rule. Even a copy of file rule is not working.Please refer attachments. Please suggest your ideas asap. Any help would be needful.

Hi Everyone,

As mentioned in my previous post. I am able to achieve Step 1. But my concern is every time I have to run rules manually by clicking on 'Run Rules for this folder'. How to trigger them automatically as soon as file enters the folder. Also I need help with Steps 2,3,4 i.e triggering my custom workflow and accessing the file throughout workflow. Please help me.
