Can you provide a little more context? Do you mean, how do you start a workflow through the user interface? Or do you mean how do you create a workflow task with the API?

There are two styles of workflow in Alfresco. One is "simple" or "basic" workflows. The other is "advanced". The advanced workflow engine, based on jBPM, is the only one that supports task management.

To give someone a workflow task, you just launch an advanced workflow that includes a task. That task will be assigned to an actor. The out-of-the-box workflows allow you to select the task assignment when you launch a workflow.

To launch the workflow, go to an object you want to send through the workflow and either click the action dropdown or go to the properties for that object. Then, click Start Advanced Workflow.

Tasks show up in the "My Tasks to Do" dashlet on the Alfresco Dashboard.

Tasks in Alfresco is not something that is provided in tools like outlook, where you can create your own tasks etc. Task feature in Alfresco is a dashlet to display your workflow tasks, which is explained in the previous post.

Hi,
I am new to alfresco. I'm using alfresco 4.2.e community edition. Want to create a task and assign it to an actor. Could you please let me know how do I do that? Is it that we have to create a new workflow or can we change the existing workflow to include additional tasks in that itself?
