topic Current Content... in Alfresco Archive

Hi,

Finally, I've installed and read carefully the "'Getting started guide" to implement Alfresco in my current institution but I've several questions that I'll try to solve with your help.

My idea is change the current system to share files through a server with a shared-folder in several workstations. En each workstation I've mapped a new drive and people can create, modify and delete information without upload or download files. However, the workflow's system is interesting and I can allow remote access through a username and password by creating users.

Anyway, I've a shared system around 20 Gygabytes of files (MS Office, photos, images, zips, etc). Now the questions: Is there a way to upload all my current shared files (folders and sub-folders included) to a new installation of Alfresco in the same server?

Thank you.

Not knowing what you plan to do with the existing install makes this hard to answer. My initial thoughts are to export all the content as ACP packages and import those into the new install or to point the new install at the old db and repository.

Thank you Jarret,

Where I can read more information about export content as ACP packages or how to point a new installation to an old repository?… My last repository wasn't working with any CMS, it's jus a system of shared folders.

Thank you.

Hi,

I misread your earlier post, so if I understand correctly you basically just have a shared folder somewhere. When I replied earlier I thought you were talking about two Alfresco repositories.

If you are indeed just working with a shared folder(s) you could just mount Alfresco as a network drive and drag-n-drop. http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/CIFS

If you wish to bring over your content with meta information there is a project called OpenMigrate that allows you to create an ACP package. http://www.tsgrp.com/Open_Source/OpenMigrate/open-migrate.jsp

Import and Export with ACP http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Export_and_Import

Hope this helps
