You don't need to use passthru. If you stick with the ldap subsystem in your chain then share will present its password dialog and things should just work.

I understand that people have succeeded configuring passthru against Samba rather than AD; have a search in the forums.

If you want a non Microsoft solution then consider CAS.

you're right, dward.

I'd mistakenly left the share-custom-config.xml file available. renaming that file sent share back to it's default format.
