I believe you can use a service task here.

I don't want to use service task as it is. I need to customize the service task and want to use this task for doing a specific function like for example a specific task which is used for File Transfer using FTP or SFTP. I want this specific custom task to appear on the left side pallet of the Activiti Explorer under Activities section.
Is it possible to create such Tasks on our own in Activiti Explorer?

Yes, you can create new elements in the left side toolbar, and then these will have to be translated into ServiceTasks having extension elements for setting different properties for the custom behaviour class of this service.
Then you'll need some converters in order to handle the converting of these new elements between JSON/XML and BPMN.

There is some code to do but it could be done

The best example for it is the source code itself.
you can start investigating how another item in the left panel is done and then just do the same for your new element.

Did anyone achieve the custom task creation with custom palletes and all, using Activiti Explorer ? If yes, please help me with what all changes is required ?? Any help would be appreciated.
