Hi men…

I want to scan a document, and upload to Alfresco, and save it in a specific repository…I read about ImageMagick, but I don't know if I can use this application for the work that I can do….I read too about Kofax, but the difference is that ImageMagick is by default in the typical installation of alfresco, Kofax not.

hi
for scanning document and uploading into repository you need to integrate alfresco with kofax
Imagemagick is not use for this purpose . imagemagick is used for changing and formating the
Image file that are already store in repository.

As Sandeep mentioned you use Kofax with the scanner and not ImageMagick.
In Alfresco, ImageMagic is used as a server side component and users don't use this directly. This is used behind the scenes to manipulate documents or images based on the rules you define. For e.g. You can set a rule on a space to manipulate an Image (re-size). Any image uploaded in that space will get re-sized based on your rules. Alfresco uses ImageMagick to perform this manipulation and is transparent to the user.

Hi yogesh_prabhu,

always remember to include details of your system. What is your operating system? Which version of alfresco do you have installed ?
Imagemagick have two different installations for Windows and Linux platform…However in alfresco, you must set the directory in alfresco-global.properties where is located the executable commad "convert" of Imagemagick tool.
Here an example for Alfresco Community 3.2r2 on Linux system:

img.root=/usr/local

Hi joe,

sorry for the lack of details provided in the last post..
I am working with Windows operating system and i have both 3.2r as well as 3.3 installed on my system..
I still dont have an idea of using ImageMagick..
i have a requirement of rotating an image, and some more similar features..i want an image tool kind of a thing..
I read in an article that Imagemagick allows all such features but i dont know how to use it with alfresco..
Do i have to configure something or is there any transformer code that i have to write..?

Any kind of suggestions would be helpful..

Hi,

by default Alfresco uses ImageMagick to manipulate images for previewing. For example on Share, if you browse the document library of a site, you can see the images thumbnails of your uploaded photos. I understand that you want to manipulate images (such as crop or rotate images and so on) directly into alfresco web explorer. Is that right? I really do not know if you can do it. Let's see if I can help you. First of all make sure you have correctly installed Imagemagick. If you installed Alfresco using one of the installation wizards, ImageMagick is already be installed.


1. Verify if ImageMagick is already installed on your system.
   You can run the convert command, which is part of ImageMagick and usually located in C:/YOUR_ALFRESCO_HOME/ImageMagick
2. If ImageMagick is not on your system, browse to the ImageMagick download site and
   install the appropriate package for your platform.
3. Modify the img.root= and img.exe= properties in the alfresco-global.properties file to point to the ImageMagick root directory.
   For example, for Windows:
   a.   Set the img.root= property to img.root=C:/YOUR_ALFRESCO_HOME/ImageMagick
   b.   Set the img.exe= property to img.exe=C:/YOUR_ALFRESCO_HOME/ImageMagick/bin/convert.exe

hi..
I have installed alfresco enterprise 3.3 version on my system, which has XP installed on it. Since when we install alfresco a ImageMagick folder gets created in alfresco folder. i have refered some ebooks and wikies on how to install ImageMagick. I am still confussed how can i use it. After following the steps which you had told, i am still getting an error.
When i start alfresco it gives error

ImageMagick Studio library and utility program has encountered a problem and needs to close.

The books which i refer was Alfresco_Enterprise_Edition_Detailed_Install_and_Configure_Guide.pdf.

Can anyone tell me the solution for this problem.
