A backslash is the '\' character. You escape it with '\\'. It's only of relevance on Windows. Here's an example of escaping backslashes.

ooo.exe=C:\\Program Files\\OpenOffice.org 3\\program\\soffice.exe

Anyway, sounds like studio is timing out when it starts up. If you remove $TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/studio and $TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/studio.war, does it start up faster?

If so, there must be some configuration setting in studio that is making it time out. Perhaps the endpoint configuration?

We have found studio to be problematic on production servers, especially when you change the password of the admin user.

I have downloaded & installed alfresco community edition 3.2, but when i start the server it takes way too long before it starts (i am talking about 20 minutes, or as the tomacat windows says, at least 1 milion milliseconds).Seeing the time progression in the window, it take about 15 minutes on

Please note the Wiki link you refer to is out of date for v3.2.

In $TOMCAT_HOME/shared/classes/alfresco-global.properties

Set ooo.exe to the path to soffice.exe or soffice.bin. Remember that backslashes must be escaped.

Alfresco will automatically start Open Office when it starts. No other steps are necessary.

Aww it's really hard to get things working when most of the information i find on the web a re related to older version of alfresco =(
Anyway thanks for the hint: i found the correct file and found that i had already the correct ooo.exe configuration
By the way, what do you mean with "Remember that backslashes must be escaped"? (I'm not english so i hardy figure out some expressions )

Now in the server startup procedure i don't get that delay on "[alfresco.util.OpenOfficeConnectionTester] The OpenOffice connection was re-established"
But there's another problem! It takes about 15 minutes on the line:

…org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig deploWAR
INFO: Deploying web application archive studio.war

I reallt can't figure out what's wrong
Maybe is it normal that the startup procedure takes at least 15 minutes???
I don't understand what's happening, because during this time my pc isn't "working" (I mean, it's not a performance problem!)

I've understand the meaning of "escaping backslashes", but i don't unsderstand why i should do this when I use normal slahes (forward ones?)

Anyway, I've removed the files you mentioned and… IT WORKED
Now i can startup the entire thing in less than 5 minutes!

I just don't understand what this "studio" was there for (actually i don't know what it is at all), I just hope removing it won't cause any problems
Many thanks!!
