topic JVM / Hardware requirements... in Alfresco Archive

I've scoured the wiki, looked at tuning the JVM settings, and am still having problems uploading a massive amount of documents into Alfresco. The program simply becomes nonresponsive after uploading many small documents, or as little as one very large document. The problem is reproducible using CIFS, webdav, or ftp.

How big of a repository can Alfresco handle on a quad-core ubuntu box with 4 gb ddr2 ram? How much of that 4gb should be devoted to the JVM? Anyone else have luck transferring half a million documents into such a setup?

Hi pescha,

that's a really interesting question. Did you get some helpful answers / findings?
What kind of

database

storage/filesystem

operation system (32/64 bit?)

do you use?
Could you post your JAVA_OPTS parameters?
I would suggest to install the database on a different box to make it easier to figure out the bottle necks.

If I had a wishlist for Alfresco my biggest wish would be a resouce-quota for the different subsystems and services or user groups. This would help a lot to scale big systems with different kind of users and user scenarios. Today only one user can slow down the whole system if he's smart or stupid enough 😉

Heiko
