In other words do something like:&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;move /var/lib/tomcat to EBS volume&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;ln -s /var/lib/tomcat /mnt/ebs/tomcat&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Code is exemplary so build up on the general idea. Apart from this you can also build up your own EBS backed instance that preserves state when turned off and this is probably the best way to go.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
