I've been trying to install alfresco for quite a while now and I'm really getting nowhere, so I thought I'd ask.I've followed Instructions from here :http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Installing_Alfresco_Community_3.2_WAR_on_Centos_5.3I have a RHEL 5.3 server and i'm trying to install the Community 3.2

alfresco.sh: line 14: /var/lib/tomcat5/tomcat/bin/startup.sh: No such file or directory

So where is my startup.sh? I'm completely lost here, the instructions mention nothing about this and its the first time I touch tomcat

If I can suggest something you should get familiar with linux and bash scripts first. It's really basic knowledge if you are going to be an administrator of any server

I'm probably a more competent sysadmin than you for all you know.

I have never used a tomcat server and .war files. But thanks for the introductory welcome to the community. Therefor I'm a little lost.

Now the alfresco container crashes before it even has time to register hence why I get the 404 error.
It also mentions it has too little permissions to write alfresco.log. Where would this file be written? In /var/log/tomcat5/ I only have the catalina.out log. Tomcat user has the write to write files to that dir which is why I'm confused.

I'm still lost as to where this startup.sh script is supposed to be? Is the idea just to start the tomcat server? Do I have to write it or is it provided?

Now if all you are going to post is learn how to wite a bash script then go somewhere else, cause I dont have the time.

Yes the idea is to start the tomcat server. And then tomcat will in turn load and run alfresco.

First thing, do you have an application server such as Tomcat 6 installed? And where is it?

In the case of tomcat there will be a startup script in its bin folder.

I have now realised that my tomcat5 server installed from RHEL's rpms used GIJ which is problematic. I think thats where my errors came from in catalina.out

I have installed the tomcat bundle and set java_home not to use openjdk (which was kept on the system because of tomcat - it is now wiped) and am now using java6u13. Everything seems to be going smoothly in my alfresco.log file.

Thanks for linking me to that PDF, I had seen it once but could not find it again.

For sake of completeness : The share entry page is static ! It does not say, that share is running (or alfresco, for that matter).
