Many experienced with Alfresco have used it in so many different fashions it's hard to keep track. OOTB document management and web content management are only two use cases that can be fulfilled. Now, with our rich repository services, using Alfresco in a CaaS fashion is a territory that is also tried and true. Also, with the advent of Surf, using Alfresco in a CaaS capacity to develop new applications/solutions specific to verticals is easy and fast. I just wanted to gather thoughts on what people have created and also what people wish they would see built using Alfresco. Doesn't matter at this point if it's main interface is Explorer, Share, or custom Surf application…just to get ideas flowing.

Here are a few solutions to start off that came to mind that would be cool to see built using Alfresco.

Contract Management System

Legal Knowledge/Case Management System

Digital Asset Management System

Disclaimer: Implementation specifics are to be avoided in this discussion.

Personnaly, I'd like to build some KM-system for a restricted circle of colleagues. I'll try to explain :
- create a folders classification that suit your KM needs, maybe using semantic theories, and RDF implementations
- building a FireFox extension that allows to "custom-bookmark" an URL. When a user "custom-bookmarks" an URL, the web-page is screened, "read" and indexed inside Alfresco. Regarding to the content of the web page you "custom-bookmarked", Alfresco would store it in different folders, following your RDF implementation.
- Then you can use the power of Alfresco and Lucene to search for a keyword and get the bookmarks you made, you can be warned (by mail) when another user has just bookmarked a web page containing some keywords are really relevant for you etc …

Further specific developments could be added in order to tune this KM-system
