Having been through the install a couple times, I did not see anything regarding the option of selecting the location MySQL stack so if I don't want it on my C drive then I have to install the entire Alfresco package on the alternate drive?…or …do I need to install mySQL in advance on the 😧 drive a

Yes your database can be (in fact probably should be) on another server.

And your content store can be on any network mountable filesystem or in your case another windows drive.

Once you are familiar with configuring Alfresco there's no need to use the installers.

Your comment stating once I'm familiar with configuring the software, I wont need to use the installer… you're saying that it's advisable I undo what I've done with the packaged installer and build the system manually? Or is it that once it's installed, there are settings that can allow me to further manipulate the configuration?

Ok, I attempted to go through a complete manual install, and things got a little messy when I came to the Tomcat bit. I dont understand why it comes prepopulated with directories and software that I was instructed to install on my own. Why would the person packaging the Tomcat installer leave a mess of files? Someone care to explain the files in that bundle?

On another note, I kept on getting the 404. When I'd run alf_start, the Mysql window would come up for a second or two and dissapear.

So then I uninstalled all the stuff I did on my own and attempted the Alf CE installer and left out the database option. Pointed it at my version and it acknowledged the alfresco db but still the 404 page.

Then I reinstalled the entire CE package and everything works. So its MY MySQL database that has problems! I thought I had the properties data and connector and all that stuff configured correctly… i just cant be sure.

Uninstalled the mysql and attempted to reinstall and when i try the Execute to finalize MySQL config, it halts at Start Service. I think i wrecked the server. Anyone have thoughts on how i can avoid reloading the OS?
Might any of this have to do with 64-bit versions of software? All the 64-bit software except imgmajik has worked. I downloaded the 32-bit version but it ends all the same.

also, when i'm populating the properties file, is it ok to have a space in adressess? Like "Program Files" and "MySQL Server" or the java addies? Their persistance to inject spaces really annoy me!
How about that Environment Variable, does the java addy have to be in Page or JAVA_HOME? The install manual cant make up it's mind and the forum says the opposite of the manual.

…is this how you guys make your money off of Enterprise subscriptions, by confusing the crap out of us so we give up and pull out the check book?? :wink:
