topic Install and config help in Alfresco Archive

Hello – i am kind of new to Alfresco but not new to computers. I have been unable to get my installation to fire off and i've followed the instructions very closely. It looks as if everything is fine – the only thing thats looks a little out of whack is the JDK 6 installation. It is an open version not a sun version and it is the one that is selected not the 1.4. Is there any common problems newbees have when installing this beast? Also, can it be installed to use https port 443 vice 8080? I'm sure it can just not there yet. Thanks for any assistance.

There's a few common problems. Not least, not reading the instructions  and not giving time to alfresco to start up

But you need the Sun JVM. In particular the OpenJDK will not work. You also need to look at your alfresco.log file to check for any errors on startup.

Really? What's the problem with OpenJDK? I thought it was pretty much Sun JVM now, is it not a new enough version? I read this before installing so used the Sun JVM but am interested to know why OpenJDK won't work.

BTW, reading the instructions doesn't always help either…

Cheers,
Justin.

Regarding using https and port 443, here is a thread http://forums.alfresco.com/en/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=8965&p=72024&hilit=ssl#p72024 that details how this is done. I have done it, it is pretty simple.

Also, in my opinion I think the installation documentation is pretty straight forward and well written.

It did take me a couple tries to get everything right. The problems that I had were indeed related to what mrogers pointed out, in that I didn't follow instructions carefully.

If you are absolutely stuck, why not try the process all over again?
