AFS and Alfresco are not similar products. One is a highly distributed file system the other is a content management system.

So for example AFS will not do content transformation and Alfresco will not do management of disconnected assets.

However both systems will manage your files, with access control etc so at that some level they will be similar.

I like the first poster am not a technical person. Is there a conflict with AFS and Alfresco? If I install it is there anything specific I need to do or configure?

They are different systems doing different things, they are unlikely to conflict.
