Definitely possible to do in Alfresco. You can configure content rules (http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Client_Manage_Content_Rules) to execute some javascript or java code to start workflow, copy content, etc. Check the wiki, forums and Alfresco books for more details.

Hi Zaizi,
Thank you for your reply. Need to know a few more things if possible. I will be mainly using debian lenny 64bit in a xen environment but the data drive is in use already by samba so if I change it over to alfresco will there be a problem or I will just lose all permissions on it assigned by samba? Also does Alfresco need X running or it can run in console mode and access thru WEB ? I really appreciate your time and patience.

You'll need to turn off the OS's samba share to use Alfresco's CIFS/Smb. The permissions on Alfresco's CIFS is based on what is given in the repository.

No you don't need X to install and configure Alfresco.
