It looks like you still have an old instance of alfresco running when trying to start the new one.

So
a) make sure all alfresco java processes have stopped before restarting.
b) Increase the perm gen space.

Great! Thanks for helping. That fixed the problem.

I read the page about JDK tuning (http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Repository_Hardware#JVM_Settings). And I have now set my Alfresco instance to start with the following parameters:

export JAVA_OPTS= '-Xms1024m -Xms2048m -XX:MaxPermSize=1024m -server '

I'm using a Mac system with 4GB ram.

When starting up, I'm still getting up the message that "Maximum heap 455.125MB is less than the recommended 512MB". Is tthere a solutions to this?

I see the post http://forums.alfresco.com/en/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=15973 that someone have managed to get rid of it, so I guess there must be something with teh JAVA_OPTS settings that don't work.

Ah, I found it. I edited the catalina.sh, and the heap-size was fixed.

Why don't the heap-size setting in alfesco.sh work?
