topic Inbound Email to Spaces in Alfresco Archive

Our network admin is a little leery of having the alfresco server running its own smtp server on our network. It looks to me like you have to have alfresco run an smtp server if you are going to receive email into a space. Is there any alternative to this? How have you guys typically configured this server for behind a firewall?

I was thinking that it would be nice to be able to set up a space to check an email account for new messages and content regardless. Does this capability exist? I could see using the java mail API to check every few minutes or so for content.

Thanks!
John Dahle

Yes, there in an alternative. A scheduled poll for unread messages in a POP3/IMAP mailbox can be set-up and the content synchronised with an alfresco folder-space using the following alfresco-forge project:
http://forge.alfresco.com/projects/email-listener/

Tom
http://www.ixxus.com
